Matthew Bryza and Francis Ricciardone proposed by the US president as ambassadors to Turkey and Azerbaijan faced serious opposition from the Armenian lobby.
As reported by the newspaper Milliyet, the absence of US ambassadors in important countries in the region such as Azerbaijan and Turkey, cannot but affect the interests of Washington in the region

On August 3, Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate endorsed the candidacy of Ricciardone as ambassador to Turkey, and the issue was included in the agenda of the plenary session of the Senate. However, Senator Sam Brownback has blocked the vote and informed his colleagues officially in written.

Bryza also faced a veto on his appointment by Senators Boxer and Mendenes.
Meanwhile, the newspaper believes that because of the midterm congressional elections, scheduled for November this year, candidates Matthew Bryza and Francis Ricciardone will hardly be passed in the Senate.
