Svalbard expedition
The 16-year-old from Cumbernauld is preparing to take part in the Coastal Svalbard Expedition.
This weekend he will touch down in Svalbard before kayaking and mountaineering in the glacial landscape during the month-long trip.
The British Schools Exploring Society (BSES) organises expeditions to allow young people to carry out environmental research for organisations in the UK.

Gavin was chosen for the trip through the Army Award Scheme following his studies at Anniesland College.
He said: "I was surprised and excited when I was asked to take part in the Coastal Svalbard expedition. I can't wait to get out there and take on the challenge.
"I have always wanted to join the armed forces and I am sure that this expedition will provide me with some of the vital skills I will need when I join the Army later in the year."
The first person from Scotland to take part in a BSES expedition, he is due to begin training with the 1st Royal Tank Regiment in September.
