Soldiers return from Iraq, Kuwait
More than 700 Oklahoma Army National Guard soldiers began arriving this week in Fort Hood, Texas, after a 10-month deployment to Iraq and Kuwait.
A total of 740 soldiers with the Enid-based 45th Fires Brigade, along with some active-duty soldiers and guardsmen from other states, are scheduled to arrive in Texas this week, said Lt. Col. Max Moss, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Army National Guard. The first group of soldiers arrived Wednesday at Fort Hood.
"We've been blessed that all these soldiers are returning to Oklahoma safe," Moss said. "We're very lucky and grateful, because Iraq is still a very dangerous place."
The soldiers are from units based in Anadarko, Enid, Lawton, Duncan, Altus and Weatherford. Moss said they will spend about five days at Fort Hood before returning to Oklahoma.
