On my self guided Persian Gulf tour I had the honor of visiting Qatar. I met friendly and helpful people which is an important guideline I use when assessing a country. Seeing the pearl inside of oyster statue was one of my goals if I ever reached Qatar. It did not disappoint.

My first encounter with Qatar was in the Heathrow airport in London. Sarah and I had time to kill and longed for a conversation with interesting folks. We ended up sitting beside a very predictable well dressed elderly couple. My preconceived notion of predictable was soon swatted to death. They worked for a prince of Qatar and had an office in his palace. We were mesmerized for the next hour listening to tale after true tale that bordered on Aladdin and his lamp sort of stories. I will never prejudge anyone by their appearance again!

That chance meeting whetted my appetite to learn more about Qatar and instilled in me a desire to visit.
