Philippine Prisoners Dance

Philippine prisoners dance....from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

I've just returned from the Philippines and while in Cebu, saw a sign to the "Detention Center".....so when I got home and was browsing a recent Time magazine and saw an article about the dancers, I decided to put the video on Globe-Hoppers.com....for all to enjoy.

It was the most viewed YouTube clip for the month it was put on....these prisoners re-enacting the dance routine from Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Their bright orange jump suits add color. One is dressed as Jackson's girlfriend with jeans and halter top.

The clip has been viewed more than 4 million times.

About 1,500 inmates take part and is part of the program to promote better fitness and discipline.

The prisoners have also done dance routines to "Queen", the "Black-Eyed Peas", "Pink Floyd", and "Sister Act".

What struck me the most about the Philippines is the poverty. I've seen poverty in many places around the world, but I have a hard time "filing the poverty in the Philippines away"....there doesn't seem to be a slot in my brain for it.

Does that make sense?
