My American Friend

by F. Suksaneh (Crystal)
(Pathumthani, Thailand)

When my family was in the states when I was 10 years old, I was very homesick while we were in Iowa. Then one day my mom told me that a girl from church had invited me over to play. That girl was Emily. She said, "My mom said you were homesick, so I though this would help". We played barbies for hours, and ate brownies, and I spent the night and played at her house many times that summer.

More than 8 years later, I went to America for Bible school and caught up with Emily again. She was still as kind and understanding and fun as she has been when we were little girls.

Before I left to come back to Thailand, she told me, "We'll meet again some day, in heaven if not here." I never dreamed I wouldn't see her again on earth. I was shocked to hear of her death, because I didn't even know she was ill.

She was such a wonderful person to me, that I don't even know how to explain.
