Two British citizens who live in Iceland, former Iceland Review scribe Alëx Elliot and his partner Brad Houldcroft, are raising funds to buy the land Nauteyri in the innermost part of the fjord Ísafjardardjúp in the West Fjords.
The Brits are planning to found a nature reserve in Nauteyri and establish a sustainable travel center with eco-friendly accommodation and facilities for scientific research, mbl.is reports.
Elliot and Houldcroft have launched a website for “The Nauteyri Project,” where they explain that their intention is not to profit from the purchase but rather to reinforce tourism in the West Fjords without harming the environment.
The land has geothermal heat, beautiful scenery and is located a stone’s throw away from the Arctic fox reserve in Hornstrandir. The land also has a lot of driftwood which can be used for construction.
