Henry Fords Forgotten Jungle City

Henry Ford's forgotten jungle city in Amazon rain forest...

The follies of the rich and powerful exert a perverse fascination and historian Greg Grandin has struck gold with this strange but true story of motor mogul Henry Ford’s bizarre attempt to rebuild the American Dream in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

Fordlandia, began in 1927, with Cape Cod-style bungalows nestled amid rubber trees, was the ultimate proof of Ford’s control-freak tendencies.

Part industrial template, part social experiment, Ford’s plan was to control every aspect of rubber production, right down to what milk the workers drank.
