US Gulf of Mexico Basin is a great laboratory of offshore seismic technology development.

Brief history : Not too long ago in the early 1960's the general opinion all but universally prevailed that reflection seismics had reached its ultimate level of quality and could scarcely be improved upon. But things change a decade after. The digital seismic revolution and 3d seismic has created a whole new exploration and production scenario of progress.

The seismic pictures breakthroughs are unlimited and allows to see beneath the earth's surface more clearly and accurately than ever before. Using the seismic pictures researchers have been able to find significant oil and gas reservoirs in increasingly challenging areas, such as underneath thick sheets of salt in the deepwater portion of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
