Felted Wool Penny Rugs

Felted wool penny rugs contain so much history and crafty memories.

For one of Anna's birthdays she asked if she and I could spend the day going to garage sales in the quad-cities near us and what a fun-filled day we had! We brought back all sorts of treasures, including two wool penny rugs.

Now that Anna has her own apartment she had to take at least one penny rug and took the blue one. First she tried washing it...in the machine. I really wondered how it would turn out, but since the wool had already been felted, I was amazed that it held up so well, even the handstitching remained intact....although I don't recommend you washing an antique or vintage penny rug that way. I think she was just lucky.
