Dutch Festival in New York
The New Island Festival, the arts celebration that will take place at Governors Island next month, has released the first details of its events, and it’s a little wacky. (For starters, you might end up with performers on your dinner table.)
Among the highlights that have been announced for the festival (which runs from Sept. 10 through 13 and Sept. 17 through 20) are “Land,” an outdoor concert that combines music made from natural sounds, musical instruments, and human voices with footage of Dutch landscapes; “Salto Vitale,” in which the Dutch theater group Tuig performs acrobatic feats from a 45-foot-tall wooden structure that they assemble; and “Wind Nomads,” an installation of 400 butterfly-like paintings that flap in the wind.
