Diane Volkmann, Mike's oldest sister

by Diane Volkmann
(Jordan, MN)

When we were little my sister and I would like to dress up in "old lady clothes" which were my Grandma's and Mike would join in the fun. Maybe that is where he got his interest in dressing up for re-enactments. In fact I just cut out a re-enactment shirt that I was going to surprise him with and I didn't get the chance to give it to him.

Also when I was dating Gordy now my husband, Mike would be peeking around the corner and giggling. I got a kick out of that, he was so cute.

As we grew older I think we grew even closer and I felt that I could talk to Mike about anything. He was very kind with a sense of humor like my Dad. I am going to miss him so much and the world is not going to be the same without him. He was my brother but also my friend.

Love you and miss you,
Diane

Oh, yes, dress up!
by: Kari

I really remember the "dressing up" and Mike was usually a good sport about putting on Grandma's old jersey print dresses and ostrich feathers. I'm sure we even had purses and hats and shoes to match...I'll have to dig out an old photo. I have one that I'm sure Gary Hetle would love to see posted on here.
