Chip Albright reaches Medellin, Colombia
I hit the road and had an epic day of 145kms! I got back to the Andes Mountains and started to climb up the west Andes in Colombia. It was a beautiful day, and it felt great to be back in the mountains. I biked right up until dark and put camp up in a field. I enjoyed a hot cup of powdered milk and my famous tuna and rice dinner. I was getting back into my routine and everything was flowing along like magic. My trip across the Americas was running smooth and I was on a buzz thinking how far I have come. As I climbed into my little yellow tent that night I was too exhausted to write in my journal and fell asleep as soon as my head hit pillow.
I had about 160kms to go before I reached Medellin where I knew I was going to have a break while I waited on a package from my good friend Foster. He was sending bike parts and whatnot. I climbed up and down the mountains all day and, once again, the views where amazing. Each mountain was covered in green grass, cows, and tiny little houses. I biked long and hard all day and had just one more massive pass to climb. Medellin was only 65kms away on the other side of the pass. I must admit I was very tired and wasted. I had nothing left in the tank at this point, but I wanted to get there today and knew I was going to try it.
I stopped and bought a pack of cookies for extra energy and started the hour climb up the mountainside with sunlight still peaking through the clouds. I pushed on and on and felt like my legs were going to burst at times, but once I start something I finish it! I finally hit the top as the sun was setting behind the mountains in the distance. The sky looked like it was on fire and it was very beautiful as I looked back down at the city that I just came from.
