Bike Touring Europe Style

In the spine-tingling embrace of a fine European city, how do you effectively, efficiently and affordably see the sights?

Blowing through the brilliance on a bus seems irreverent, a taxi taxes the wallet, parking a car --pointless. Walking is wearing, and time is of the essence. Your best bet just might be a bike.

My 13-and 15-year-old daughters and I jostled over cobblestone streets, careened along bike lanes and cruised with cars in some of Europe's most captivating cities. Averagely fit, often jet-lagged, and more accustomed to shopping than cycling, we narrowly avoided wheel-bending tramline tracks while gazing at clock towers and cathedrals.

Considering safety, ease, accessibility and interest, we have two favourite cities and some honourable mentions, for sightseeing from the saddle.
